Revised Aprendizagens Essenciais in public consultation

On 27 March 2026, EduQA opened a public consultation on revised essential learning outcomes (Aprendizagens Essenciais) for every subject of ensino básico and secundário 11. What the drafts change

• Each subject gains performance descriptors at two levels, "Proficiente" and "Avançado", per domain 1.
• Each subject gets a section linking it to the citizenship dimensions of the 2025 national strategy 1.
• Inglês stays compulsory from 3.º ano; Educação Física gets its own emphasis from 1.º ano 55. Inglês mantém-se a partir do 3.º ano, Educação Física no 1.º anoJornal de Notícias.
• The drafts had been tried out since September 2025 in a small group of pilot school clusters, in 1.º, 3.º, 5.º, 7.º and 10.º ano 1.

When it applies

Not in 2026/27. The current outcomes remain the reference for this school year. According to press reports, the new outcomes should come into force gradually from 2027/28 44. Sociedade Portuguesa de Matemática critica Aprendizagens EssenciaisPúblico, together with new curricular matrices, and a second consultation is planned for 2027 1. No despacho approving them had been published by September 2026, so dates may change.

One exception is already in force: the new secondary Matemática A outcomes reach 12.º ano in 2026/27 66. Homologação das novas Aprendizagens Essenciais de Matemática para o Ensino SecundárioDireção-Geral da Educação.
