6.º ano tests for homeschooled children (end of 2.º ciclo)

The end of 6.º ano closes the 2.º ciclo. As in 4.º ano, a homeschooled child sits two sets of tests: the national ModA tests, which only monitor, and the equivalence tests set by the school, which decide approval. There are more subjects than in 4.º ano, so organisation matters. For the general rules, see the exams overview.

Provas ModA in 6.º ano

Homeschooled pupils are enrolled automatically 11. Português (or PLNM at level A2 or B1) and Matemática are tested every year, plus rotating subjects 1:

ModA are digital (except the practical tests), not public, and produce a report rather than a grade. They have no effect on approval 1. In 2026 the 6.º ano ModA ran on 29 May (Inglês), 3 June (Português) and 8 June (Matemática) 22. Equivalence tests: the list

In the 1.ª fase, a homeschooled pupil in 6.º ano must sit the equivalence tests (provas de equivalência à frequência) in every subject of Table B 1:

Oral tests last up to 15 minutes, are open to the public and are held before a panel of three teachers, none of whom teaches your child 1. Where a test has two components, the subject grade is the simple average of the two, and both must be taken in the same phase 1. Tests are marked from 0 to 100 and converted into levels 1 to 5 1.

Approval

At the end of 2.º ciclo your child is not approved with a level below 3 in both Português and Matemática, or below 3 in three or more subjects 33. Portaria n.º 223-A/2018, de 3 de agosto (consolidated)Diário da República. Any subject left without a grade, because a test or a component was missed, also means non-approval 1.

If that happens, the 2.ª fase lets your child retake only the subjects below level 3, and you may choose just the tests needed to reach approval 1. Missing a 1.ª fase test without a serious, documented reason rules out that test in the 2.ª fase 1.

Timeline from March to July

The call lists for each test are posted on paper at the school at least 48 hours in advance, and that paper list is the only official notice 1.

How to prepare

Get every Informação-Prova early. Each school writes its own PEF, with its own structure and weighting 77. With eleven subjects, a one-page summary per subject (content, format, duration, materials) saves stress in June.

Plan the practical subjects. Educação Visual, Educação Tecnológica, Educação Musical and Educação Física are practical tests before a panel. The Informação-Prova usually says what kind of task to expect and which materials to bring. Build these skills during the year, not in May.
